The City of Jacksonville located in Northeast Florida has a robust emergency preparedness program coordinated by the city’s Emergency Preparedness Division (EPD). Each year and ahead of the Hurricane Season, the city prioritizes community outreach to all residents on specific areas relevant to emergency preparedness. This includes ensuring residents know their evacuation zones, that they understand where to access information for disaster assistance and take part in city-led efforts around mitigation planning.
Emergency Management engagement focused on:
- Establishing strategic relationship with local Hispanic businesses and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for expanding outreach to Spanish speaking residents
- Translation and dissemination of the city’s annual Emergency Preparedness Guide
- Engagement with private business employees, NGOs and minority groups through public education events and sessions
- Design and dissemination of public/partner surveys in English and Spanish as part of the city’s Local Hazard Mitigation planning process
